Question on Vendors at JF.

#1 Post by Stu Pidasso »

I'm starting to seriously consider going to Jerseyfest, not only as a fan, but for a vendor. This will be my first ever one in either capacity. I know it is primarily a figure show, but I'm a GK'er, but I do vehicles. Can someone sell me on not only going, but will it be worth my while to pay for a vendors table, if I do only vehicles? And 85-90% Star Wars kits at that. Or should I not waste my time as a vendor and just come as a fan?

Consider this...the table price at JF is very resonable. I think Dave only charges like $175. Pretty good price if you ask me. 8)

Table price is one of the least of my worries. Sales, that's the big one. I guess my main question is: Does vehicles and non-figure stuff sell well there?

I can't speak for how things will sell but I like vehicle kits (own a couple of yours) so you just never know until you try. Dave puts together a solid show IMHO and I think you would enjoy yourself. Lots of fun people that can't make it to other bigger shows like WF.

Speaking as a vendor who's attended a number of shows, the only thing that anyone can guarantee is that there's never a guarantee. In all the years I've been attending shows, I can never estimate correctly what will and won't sell. For example, this year I felt sure that the one sure fire kit at this years Wonderfet was going to sell out was the "Talia" ... I took 25, I came back with 8, but kits that I've had for several years sold like wild fire ... who knew.

At this years Wonderfest our tables were crazy, we didn't even get to eat on Saturday until dinner time, because we couldn't leave our tables long enough to even grab a sandwich in the hallway concession stand. Same thing on Sunday, but because the show opened at 10, we at least were able to have breakfast at the hotel restaurant ... yet I heard tell of some vendors that didn't do very well. There's honestly no way to estimate (or even begin to guess) what will or won't sell, you're never going to know until you put them out there and see.

All that being said, I did VERY well at last years Jerseyfest, and I'm looking forward to going again this year.

Yeah, I think that's the biggest of my worries: Bringing hardware to a figure show. The unknown is what is getting to me.

Jimi - I can say last year's show was not "hardware" oriented, but this year's show is leaning that way! Figures will rule of course, but w/ Lorne Petersen coming along w/ some other hardware kids (Jason Eaton, Al Camisa etc...) hardware wouldn't necessarily be lost in the crowd. If nothing else, bring a crap load of your Minions! :D

This year is much more of a hybrid show and vehicles are going to be represented well. We have many vendor tables already lined up with vehicles (including some major dealers). Classes, demos and parties etc... all geared towards the vehicle hobbyist. Also, vehicles will be a large part of our contest and a soon to be announced special exhibit for large scale sci-fi vehicle models. (e.g., studio scale). There are some surprises in store and I can assure you vehicles will be a big part of our upcoming promotions. Announcements coming soon.

And also as a vendor at last years show i did very well also.
