Vampire Hunter D Bust (ManoGK)

#1 Post by sivousplay »

My latest piece is a rare and long out of print Vampire Hunter D Bust (1/4) scale produced by ManoGK. This beautiful sculpt was clearly inspired by the amazing watercolors created by Yoshitaka Amano. In addition to the bust, the kit came with a sword and shield. I built a shadowbox for them to complement the bust. As always, this piece is hand painted using acrylics and inks. I tried to be faithful to Amano's originals but also put a little sivousplay in it! I've also included a picture of my D shrine which includes my painting of the Nightmare sculpt by the master Takayuki Takeya. I hope you like it!

Cheers,
jim

Not my thing but that looks really cool Jim! The last picture makes a great display. Your paint job is what makes it tho.

Another well done piece. Especially like the tarnished plaque.

Breathtaking. Such delicate detail in every aspect of this.
To me, it seems very Elric inspired.
And I swear I have seen a book cover that is really close to that profile shot.

Thanks so much for sharing this beautiful work.

Hi Trevor,

Thanks for the kind words about my work. The inspiration for this sculpt and my paint work on it comes from the watercolors of Yoshitaka Amano and you are correct in remembering the book cover. You are also correct in remembering the Elric connection. Takayuki Takeya sculpted both Nightmare (Vampire Hunter D inspired) and Stormbringer (Elric inspired). The concepts for both clearly came from Amano watercolors. I even found a quote attributed to Michael Moorcock saying that "Amano does the best version of Elric."

Thanks for the thoughtful comment. I thought it deserved a thoughtful response!

Cheers,
jim

You don't get a sense of how big it is until you see it next to the full sized kit.

Very nicely done sir.
