New Topic Launch: "Member Collections"
We’re launching a new topic titled "Member Collections."
THE PURPOSE IS SIMPLE to give members a dedicated space to document their model collections in both images and text and via links out to websites, galleries and video. Not just finished kits, but the broader ecosystem around them — shelves, cabinets, themed groupings, workbenches, works-in-progress, and the thinking behind how collections are built, organised, and displayed.
This isn’t intended as a brag wall or a "greatest hits" gallery. It’s closer to AN ARCHIVE: a place where collections can be shown in context, explained, revisited, and evolved over time. Notes about construction, repainting, kit-bashing, restorations, display choices, and even abandoned ideas are all entirely appropriate.
To give the topic some substance from day one, six members have generously created seed threads showing different approaches — from tightly themed displays to broader, long-running accumulations. These are not templates or benchmarks, just starting points. There are IDEAS FOR ORGANISING COLLECTIONS HERE: viewtopic.php?t=126848
My own thread takes a broad view of a "collection." It includes shelves and themed panoplies, with notes on how and why they were assembled, and a separate post titled "My Backstory," outlining the films, books, comics, music, and other influences that fed into and came out of the hobby as it evolved. That sort of contextual material is very welcome, but entirely optional.
There are no rules beyond basic forum etiquette. Post as much or as little as you like. Update your post/thread over time or leave it as a snapshot. Think of it less as "show and tell" and more as record keeping for people who care about this stuff.
WE SUGGEST 2 THINGS:
1) Use "Edit post" to keep adding to a single post documenting your collection and
2) Edit your post so that more than one picture can be displayed on a line. There is a THREAD ON EDITING POSTS HERE: viewtopic.php?t=126856
Jump in when ready and have fun.
